Miles Davis – Bags Groove (mono) – Analogue Productions 180 Gram Vinyl Record
£49.95
For sale individually and as part of Analogue Productions’ Prestige Mono Series.
There are a multitude of reasons why Bags’ Groove remains a cornerstone of the post-bop genre.
Of course, says All Music Guide, there will always be the lure of the urban myth surrounding the Christmas Eve 1954 session — featuring Thelonious Monk — which is documented on the two takes of the title track.
There are obviously more tangible elements, such as Davis’ practically telepathic runs with Sonny Rollins (tenor sax). Or Horace Silver’s (piano) uncanny ability to provide a stream of chord progressions that supply a second inconspicuous lead without ever overpowering.
Muddy Waters – I’m Ready – Pure Pleasure Records 180g Vinyl LP
£39.95
At the end of his storied career, the great Chicago blues man, Muddy Waters, had one last period of resurgence. He made a trilogy of albums produced by Johnny Winter-Hard Again, I’m Ready, and King Bee. Winters’ formula was fairly straight forward-surround Muddy with his touring band and add some special guests to light his fire-while recording a mixture of hit singles with new material. Then let Muddy cut loose and burn down some electric Chicago blues. It was a winning combination and you can sense the joy that Muddy felt in his bantering between songs. His last hurrah was a barnburner.
Lonnie Smith – Turning Point – Blue Note 180g Vinyl
£19.95
A stone killer from organist Lonnie Smith one of his completely cooking early albums for Blue Note, and a hard-burner all the way through! Smith’s working here with a really great group that includes Idris Muhammad on drums and Melvin Sparks on guitar both of whom give the album a really heavy bottom, and almost make the set feel like one of those classic Prestige jammers from the same time. But added to them is a great horn section of Lee Morgan on trumpet, Julian Preister on trombone, and Bennie Maupin on tenor all of whom give the record a slightly hipper, more modern feel in keeping with the Blue Note groove of the time. Tracks are all nice and long and titles include the originals “Turning Point” and “Slow High” plus versions of “See Saw”, “People Sure Act Funny”, and “Eleanor Rigby”.

50th Anniversary Edition of 1975 Album Features Audiophile Sound: Mobile Fidelity’s 180g 45RPM 2LP Set Plays with Revealing Clarity and Broad Dynamics
1/4” / 15 IPS Dolby A analog copy to DSD256 to analog console to lathe
Heart’s breakthrough debut, Dreamboat Annie, has often been framed in the context of a female-led band successfully matching the moves of its male counterparts during an era when women weren’t associated with rocking out — particularly on a mainstream level. While that take is true — Ann and Nancy Wilson practically stood alone amid a commercial age dominated by testosterone — it undersells the appeal, scope, and craftsmanship of an album that deserves to be revered strictly because of its merit, not because of the gender of the group’s principal members.Heart – Dreamboat Annie – Mofi Hybrid SACD

£99.95
Jazz at the Pawnshop is a multi-session recording made by Swedish sound engineer Gert Palmcrantz on December 6-7, 1976, at Jazzpuben Stampen (Pawnshop) in Stockholm, Sweden. A pawnshop had operated on the site prior to the jazz club. Proprius Records founder Jacob Boethius produced the album, and it has been issued several times under multiple labels and formats. The album is regarded by many audiophiles as one of the best jazz recordings of the 20th Century.
Sarah McLachlan – Solace – Analogue Productions SACD
£45.00
The Analogue Productions reissue treatment delivers sonics and luxury packaging second to none for discerning collectors. Now three titles by Canadian songstress Sarah McLachlan have been given this premier makeover and you reap the benefits: Solace, Mirrorball and Afterglow.
Solace, McLachlan’s second album, is considerably more mature and musically sophisticated than her 1988 debut, the promising if limited Touch. In fact, this disc is a must-have for McLachlan fans whose first encounter with her work was with her extremely popular later releases, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy and Surfacing.
Miles Davis – Birth Of The Blue – Analogue Productions Hybrid Stereo SACD
£39.95
Miles Davis’s Kind of Blue was the number-one jazz album in history. It totaled five songs. There are four more songs from that same historic group, recorded in the same time period and at the same studio. And here they are. These songs deserve to stand on their own with artwork to highlight the quality of the music and that matches the time period of the recording. This is a rare opportunity to have a smash follow-up to what many consider the greatest jazz record ever!
