“Steppin’ Out” earned Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male. “Breaking Us in Two” also reached the Top 20 in the U.S. Although the album has sold more than three million copies in the U.S., it is only certified gold, not triple-platinum, by the RIAA, for reasons unknown.
“Steppin’ Out” was a Top 10 in both the U.K. and the U.S. (U.K. No. 6, U.S. No. 6). “Breaking Us in Two” was a Top 20 hit in the U.S. (No. 18), but charted lower in the U.K. (No. 59). This was a rare occurrence in which one of his singles charted higher in the U.S. than the U.K.
